Outline of a Framework for a QA Service in Support of C3S

This Service Specification Document (SSD, Version 1.0) scopes the concepts for the development and implementation of an operational QA system that will provide metrological traceability of ECV product processing and validation chains and include access to both multi-use and ECV-specific uncertainty analysis and validation tools, best practice guidance, community reference standards and full data provenance documentation.

Traceability chains now available

Traceability chains for three land and three atmosphere ECVs are now available on the QA4ECV website.  These chains are provided to clearly display the processing steps taken to produce each ECV dataset and to demonstrate the Traceability and Uncertainty Propagation Tool (TUPT) concept which will be developed as part of the QA4ECV quality assurance system.  For more information, go to the chains.

Results from User Requirements Survey now available

The QA4ECV user requirements survey report is complete. Results of this survey, distributed to over 10 000 satellite data users, indicate that data users want satellite-derived products to contain all aspects of quality assurance information, but do not find these readily available. Product uncertainty and processing traceability information are the least accessible components of quality assurance. QA4ECV will use these findings to develop a better quality assurance system for Essential Climate Variables derived from satellite measurements.
